  • Streamlined Routing: Designed a multi-destination feature that allows users to seamlessly swap train routes for restaurants, hotels, and points of interest.

  • Reduced Friction: Developed an intuitive persistent pop up window that lets users add multiple stops in a single step without losing their place on the map.

After gathering the data from interviews and survey, My group and I categorize the infromation into overlapping groups that users to understand user’s needs and wants.

DEFINE + IDEATE - Mapping the Journey

User Personas

Developed personas, representing Tripadvisor’s target audience, mostly people who have a job and travels for fun or for business and are in there 20s to 40s.

Empathy Map

A tool for collaboration so teams can obtain insights and deeper connections with their users.

I mapped users’ travel experiences from pre-vacation planning to post-trip reflections. Key pain points included deciding destinations, emotions, and handling unexpected disruption.

POV / Problem Statement / HMW

We utilized HMW strategy on each persona to ease the discussion of the app features., With various how might we’s we finalize the best ones to solve user concerns.

Site Mapping

After many process of brainstorming sessions, we defined 4 main features to turn TripAdvisor into a all time traveling app to use.

DESIGN & DEVELOP - Crafting the Adventure

After creating the map, we created a flow chart for the whole system, to make the structure more clear and organized in a way that provides the task on the interface.

Alternative Routes

A pop up for users to save time and decreases stress that occurs during traveling. This uses news reports, traffic, flight data(delays) into consideration. Creates a seamless experience and travel that is free of interruptions and values your time.

Filtering

Users who want to be provided with reliable reviews. Allows users to select phrases of good quality traits when looking for a dependable review.Users select phrases regarding good qualities traits they’ll like to see in a review for a restaurant.

Packing Checklist

Generate a recommended packing checklist for the user’s trip, using their trip plan info + questionnaire answers. Benefits include Personalized for User and Efficiency + Accuracy
No redundant items, considers max luggage weight and flight restrictions

Spending Predict
Spending Predict

The feature has the ability to predict their travel spending after adding hotels, restaurants, and attractions to their created collection in the "My Plan" section of the tap bar. Additionally, the prices of the hotels, restaurants, and attractions will be displayed. Users can view the prices and make adjustments to the number of people and rooms.

Design System - Building Consistency

Created a cohesive system across the app with:

  • Rounded typography for calm, approachable

  • Color palette that’s refreshing and gentle with blue

  • Layout grids for organized flow

  • Buttons, icons, and cards designed to be intuitive and consistent


My Takeaway from This Journey.

Ask the right questions to truly understand users’ needs. I learned how to create an stress-free, organized travel experience that helps users plan trips confidently, save time and enjoy every moment. I discovered how thoughtful design can make a big impact, turning something simple into something elegant, intuitive and genuinely useful. This project will always stay with me because it made design feel personal, meaningful, and full of possibility.
